Understanding the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in Florida
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, provides health insurance options for millions of Americans. Here's what Florida residents need to know.
What is the ACA Marketplace?
The ACA Marketplace is where you can shop for and enroll in health insurance plans. In Florida, you'll use the federal marketplace at HealthCare.gov.
Available Plan Types
- Bronze Plans: Lower premiums, higher out-of-pocket costs
- Silver Plans: Balanced premiums and out-of-pocket costs
- Gold Plans: Higher premiums, lower out-of-pocket costs
- Platinum Plans: Highest premiums, lowest out-of-pocket costs
Qualifying for Premium Tax Credits
You may qualify for financial assistance if:
- Your household income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level
- You're not eligible for other qualifying health coverage
- You file federal income taxes
Special Enrollment Periods
You can enroll outside the regular enrollment period if you experience:
- Loss of health coverage
- Marriage or divorce
